Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool were dealt a huge blow today after it was revealed that first choice transfer target Mahmoud Dahoud has finally agreed on a deal to join German outfit Borussia Dortmund this summer.
The German midfielder is one of the most exciting players in Europe at the moment and was linked with a move to Anfield before the start of the current season.
However, Borussia Monchengladbach, his current club were reluctant to sell him and managed to keep him for another season.
And Dahoud has yet again been impressive in a deep-lying role for the German outfit, constantly attracting interests from some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
At just 21, Dahoud is a future superstar and has been linked with the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, and Barcelona in the recent past.
But Borussia Dortmund took the first step for his signature earlier in the year and have now completed a move for him ahead of this summer.
Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said in a recent interview that Dahoud ‘is an incredibly exciting player in central midfield and we have been watching him closely for several years. He has already proved that he can play at the highest level.’
And it is now understood that Zorc has managed to land the starlet for the end of the season.
Liverpool were reportedly ready to pay €25m for his services, which is well above his release clause but Dortmund have done well to lure him to Germany.
Though both clubs are yet to reveal the actual price of the deal, reports from the Kicker magazine claim that Dortmund is paying about €12m (£10.3m) for the player.
At that price, the 21-year old is a bargain and can turn out to be one of the most productive summer signings in Europe.
Dahoud came up the ranks at Monchengladbach as a teenager and has cemented a place in the first team this season.
He has 52 Bundesliga appearances and 17 Europa League appearances already to his name and has six goals in this time.
It is understood that Dortmund have signed him up on a five-year deal that will keep him at the Signal Iduna Park until the end of the 2022 season.
It will be a huge blow for the Reds who will not have to look elsewhere for midfield additions this summer. Do you think Dahoud will be a hit at Dortmund?
