Arsenal are signing Cohen Bramall from non-league Hednesford Town in a bargain £40,000 deal.
Left back Bramall, 20, has been on trial at Arsenal and has now been offered a contract until 2019.
Bramall is seen as one for the future while Arsenal have been looking for a new left back as they believe there is a gap in the squad.
Incumbents Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs are both internationals but boss Arsene Wenger wants depth at the position.
Wenger is unlikely to spend too heavily in January with the Frenchman preferring to wait until the summer for his top targets.
Bramall is a left-sided player who can play in midfield or at full-back.
He is quick, skilful, has good acceleration and can cross. He also has an eye for goal, too.
Cohen was signed for Hednesford by Liam McDonald this summer. His early-season form – including a stunning Rabona assist – alerted the attention of league clubs. He was then handed a trial at Arsenal.
The team Bramall plays for, Hednesford, turn out in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League. That’s the seventh tier of English football.
Gunners fans shouldn’t expect to see him in a first-team shirt anytime soon and he’s considered very much one for the future.
Arsene Wenger has previously said the club should step up their scouting of the lower leagues after seeing former non-league players such as Jamie Vardy develop into stars in the Premier League.
Wenger also signed then-20-year-old centre-back Rob Holding from Bolton Wanderers in a £3 million deal last summer.
