Arsenal have been a rather dull team in the transfer window, compared the number of deals the clubs from around the country have done this summer.
Granit Xhaka and Rob Holding are the only two big names that will play a role in the club next season which has left the fans of the club furious.
However, the manager was thirsted into the transfer market for further additions after the injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista, both of who are out for a decent amount of time.
This has seen Wenger look at a number of options recently with the likes of Jonny Evans from West Brom and Simon Kjaer from Fenerbahce for a move this summer.
However, their top transfer target has eluded them in Shkodran Mustafi.
The German international, who is currently playing for La Liga outfit Valencia was reportedly available for a move with reports even suggesting that he has agreed a deal in person with the Premier League outfit.
However, a deal was stalled between the two clubs, thanks to a disagreement on his price. It is understood that Valencia valued Mustafi at around £30m but Wenger was only happy to pay around £20m and also saw a bid rejected for a similar amount.
However, with the close of the transfer window now not too far away, it is now understood that Wenger is desperate enough to reach his valuation.
According to recent reports from the Star, Arsenal have agreed to sign the German defender in a £25.9m deal that will see the La Liga outfit let the player leave this summer.
No official word is out yet and other reports still say that the 24-year old is in talks with two other clubs but it is revealed that Arsenal are front runners for his signature and that their most recent offer might be enough to lure him to the Premier League.
Wenger has also recently revealed that he will surely get in another defender before the end of the transfer window and it looks like Mustafi is the man that will add to the Gunners squad ahead of the next season.
If it’s true, an official word will be out soon but the player will not be eligible for the game against Leicester City this weekend.
