According to the Daily Telegraph, Arsenal are interested in Manchester United defender Phil Jones. The 24-year old’s future at Old Trafford remains unclear with Jose Mourinho keen with Daley Blind and Eric Bailly pairing in central defense.
Manchester United are also keen to sign Southampton defender Jose Fonte before the close of the transfer window as Mourinho want to add an experienced defender to his squad.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are searching for a centre back all across Europe and have been linked with the likes of Shkodran Mustafi, Marcel Tisserand, and Jese Gimenez.
But with Valencia playing hardball over Mustafi deal, Arsenal are forced to look at other options as they are in dire need of a centre-back before the end of transfer window. The arrival of Laurent Koscielny is a welcome sight for Gooners but Wenger needs another centre back.
Phil Jones is linked with Stoke City but Jose Mourinho is not keen to entertain any offers for the young defender from their direct rivals Arsenal. The Red Devils are ready to sell the player but not to Arsenal.
With the expected arrival of Jose Fonte, Jones’ future at the club will be more uncertain in the last few days and it remains to be seen whether Arsenal and Wenger could pull off a surprise signing despite Manchester United’s reluctance.
