Chelsea have confirmed that star midfielder Oscar will join Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG as both the clubs have agreed terms on a permanent transfer.
The 25-year old Brazilian international will join the Chinese outfit at the start of the January transfer window.
A statement from Chelsea read: ‘Chelsea Football Club and Shanghai SIPG have agreed terms for the permanent transfer of Oscar. The Brazilian has been an integral part of Blues squad till last season but has fallen down the pecking order since Antonio Conte took over as manager earlier this summer.
With his opportunities seriously limited under Conte, Oscar was expected to leave Chelsea in January and earlier reports suggested that Chelsea have accepted the bid from Shanghai SIPG. The move will mint Chelsea around £60 million which could help the club to overcome the massive losses they reported for the season that ended in June this year.
The statement from Chelsea FC read: ‘The 25-year-old will join the Chinese Super League team at the beginning of the January transfer window.
‘He has been a Chelsea player for four-and-a-half years, helping us lift the Premier League, League Cup and Europa League as well as scooping two Chelsea Goal of the Season awards after stunning strikes against Juventus in 2012, on his full debut, and QPR in 2014.
‘Skilful and tenacious, Oscar has been highly regarded by fans, players and staff during his time as a Blue, scoring 38 times from 203 Chelsea appearances.’
The move to Shanghai SIPG will make OScar one of the biggest earners in football as he already fetched a record price for a player in the Chinese League. He will join former Tottenham and Chelsea manager André Villas-Boas at Shanghai SIPG as the duo would be keen to recreate the magic in the Chinese season that begins in March next year.
