Manchester United have been quietly hoovering up a number of talented youngsters into their highly-rated academy recently.
More specifically, the Red Devils have been looking to the Netherlands for young talent, which they have now apparently continued.
With teenager Timothy Fosu-Mensah breaking into the senior side under Louis van Gaal and then being joined by Tahith Chong in the under-18 side, United have made a move to sign hotly-rated Ajax starlet Millen Baars.
Last week, the 16-year-old’s father told Dutch publication Noordhollands Dablad, that his son had several offers from the likes of Chelsea, AC Milan and Arsenal, but had chosen to turn them all down in favour of a move to Manchester United.
“We have had talks with Ajax that were between Millen and the club but it was certainly nothing shocking, he was even appointed captain this season of the B1,” his father said.
“Ajax is a great club with a very good youth, but they can unfortunately not cope so very well. You saw in the past with other youth players who now play at other clubs. But Millen was ready for a different challenge.”
And it seems that a deal to take him to Old Trafford has been completed, as the player himself changed the bio of one of his social media channels to say “Manchester United player” with a picture of him in the club’s training kit.
However, according to the Manchester Evening News, he won’t be available to play for the United youth sides until January.
He is in good company, though, as he is being handled by the Stellar Group, who already take care of current United stars Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and Fosu-Mensah.
And he is becoming the latest in a long line of Dutch youngsters to cross the North Sea into England. Javairo Dilrosun (Manchester City), Donyell Malen (Arsenal) and Juan Familia Castillo (Chelsea) have all made the move recently, but this could allude to a bigger problem within Dutch football.
