Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne is set to be out for the next four weeks due to a hamstring injury that he has suffered in their side’s 3-1 victory against Swansea City.
The 25-year old has been arguably the best player in the league as he has put together a series of consistent performances for the club over the past few weeks. He has also played as a striker for the club earlier this month after Sergio Aguero was banned for three games.
The midfielder will undergo a few tests in Manchester to understand the extent of the injury and will travel to Barcelona to get special treatment from a specialist as he looks to get back to fitness in time.
He will miss the Champions League clash against Celtic and also the high profile game against Spurs this weekend. Pep Guardiola will find it difficult to replace to replace him as he is the cornerstone for their attack with his impressive passing and vision in the final third as he was their main man with City winning their first 10 games of the season so far.
Speaking after their Swansea win, Pep Guardiola said: “I think he’s injured.
“Tonight we are going to come back to Manchester, tomorrow the doctor is going to see. It’s a pity. It’s important for us. For how he reacted it looks muscular but I’m not a doctor.”
The midfielder is expected to return to action for their EFL cup clash against Manchester United on October 26 next month unless he recovers earlier than expected.
Manchester City were given another injury setback as their captain Vincent Kompany who has recently achieved fitness has suffered “muscle fatigue “ in his groin in the League Cup win at Swansea and is set to be sidelined for the next few weeks.
