Liverpool’s central defender Martin Skrtel has lashed out at the club for giving him an unacceptable contract offer.

Skrtel is currently one of the top earners at the club but the contract offer presented by the club has made the Slovakian very uneasy and he has decided not to sign it.

Speaking to Slovakian publication Aktualne, Skrtel was quoted saying how he felt about the new contract, which was offered to him. Skrtel thought that the contract is for elder players or for those who are battling with injuries.

Skrtel said: ‘It’s unacceptable for me. I think that such contracts are offered to players who are much older than me or players who have had some health problems.

‘The contract, which was presented to me, makes me uneasy, so I did not sign it.

‘There has been some speculation about the interest of other clubs for my person, but they are currently being addressed.’

As per the reports, Skrtel was offered a 3-year contract with an option of extending further 12 months if both parties agreed to the terms.

Earlier in the year, Liverpool were expecting the strike a deal with Skrtel over a new contract but the club wanted the player to play specific number of games each season to earn his new contract.

In the end, it stopped the Slovakian from agreeing to an extended stay at Anfield.

Now is the second time, where Liverpool have disappointed Skrtel and the rumor mills are gathering pace about Skrtel’s possible exit from the club this summer.

Skrtel was one of the best defenders in the league last season and plenty of clubs will pay a handsome fee to sign the Slovakian.

Liverpool are still battling with Raheem Sterling’s contract stand-off and they now have to deal with Skrtel’s contract as well.

However, there is some positive news for the club as James Milner is close to sealsing his free transfer move from Manchester City.

The England International held positive talks with the Anfield club earlier in the week and the transfer is exoected to be announced in coming days.
