It’s fair to say this isn’t how Jose Mourinho would have pictured life as Manchester United manager.

It seems he’s only ever one bad result away from a crisis, though that’s unsurprising given the high standards the club have set themselves over the years.

However, there’s no denying the Portuguese has big problems. Thursday’s 2-1 defeat to Fenerbahce in the Europa League was just the latest in a string of slip-ups, and he’s already being compared unfavourably with David Moyes – and let’s face it, that takes some doing.

Sky Sports have worked out that it could be about to get a whole lot worse, too.

If United fail to win away at Swansea this weekend, they will have suffered their worst ever start to a Premier League season.

Sound familiar? It should, because that’s exactly what Mourinho achieved last season at Chelsea, when the Blues managed just 11 points from their opening 11 games.

United will play their 11th game this weekend, and they currently sit in eighth place on 15 points. In fact, if we’re just talking about points, they’re as close to the relegation zone as they are to the top of the table.

The Red Devils have only won four league games this season, and draws with the likes of Stoke and Burnley have left Mourinho in a pretty sticky situation.

If it’s any consolation, he won’t be the first manager to achieve the unwanted record of leading two clubs to their worst ever starts in consecutive seasons; Mark Hughes has already done it with QPR and Stoke, and there are a few other names on that list too.

Yet, these aren’t the standards Mourinho should be judging himself by, and he’ll no doubt want to do everything he can to make sure United walk away with the three points this weekend.
