Arsenal are closing in on their first signing of the season as reports from website KingFut.com suggest that Egyptian national mid-fielder El-Nenny has passed a medical with the club.

The 23-year old was due to have a medical in Paris on Tuesday and will be the first outfield player that Arsenal have added to their squad for more than an year.

El-Nenny reportedly underwent his medical at Zurich late on Tuesday. It was reported that he came out of the test without any issues about his health or fitness and is just a step away from dawning the Arsenal jersey.

The box-to –box mid-fielder is one of the nominees for the PFA player of the year award in 2014 and is a very gifted player. He might not slot into the Arsenal mid-field straight away but will surely strengthen the squad and provide cover for injuries.

El-Nenny will reportedly sign a four-and-a-half year contract with the London franchise a transfer that will cost Arsenal in the region of £7 million. However, this transfer is subject to the player receiving his work permit.

This should not be a huge problem for him or the Gunners as El-Nenny has already played in 15 of the 17 matches for the Egypt national team in the last two years. The minimum requirement for a permit is 75% and the mid-fielder is way over the requirement.

However, they will have to go through an appeal process to acquire the permit and finalize the transfer. It is expected that an official announcement will be made in the near future.

Top placed Arsenal are wary of the fact that this season the Premier League has been nothing less than a roller-coaster ride. They will have to cover all their weaknesses if they are to stay at the top of the table at the end of the season.

The Gunners will play Newcastle United on Saturday in their next Premier League fixture.
