Arsenal boss Arsenal Wenger has assured the fans that star players Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez will remain at the club for ‘at least 18 months’ as speculations surround the duo’s future at the club.
Arsenal has been in negotiations with both the players since summer but have so far failed to pin them down to a new contract. Both Sanchez and Ozil has the contract with the club till the summer of 2018.
However, Gunners are alarmed of the situation and are ready to offer a better deal as there has been a deadlock in the talks. Mesut Ozil is the closest to the deal than Alexis Sanchez who has been reluctant to extend his stay at Emirates post-2018 so far.
Seeing the situation of Sanchez, London rials Chelsea are keen to swoop in for the talented Chilean who is at the peak of his form this season having scored seven goals in the last eight Premier League games.
Wenger has confirmed that the duo will stay with the club until the end of their current contracts and has assured that the club will block any potential offer for the players over the next few transfer windows.
’18 months is quite long in football you know,’ Wenger said in a press conference this morning.
‘They have 18 months contract and are completely committed and will do well as long as they are here. Beyond that, we will try to extend their contract.
‘No matter what happens they will stay 18 months, and hopefully much longer.
‘But I can’t make a subject of that in every press conference. The less you talk about it the better it is.
‘At some stage, you have to accept negotiations are private and secret, we don’t have to come out every day to explain everything. We are professionals, we’ll work until the last day of our contracts.’
