According to Sky Sports sources, Chelsea target Augsburg defender Baba Rahman has passed his medical at the Blues. If Sky sources are to be believed Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea are closing in on the Ghanian youngster for £20m from the Bundesliga side.

Though, Stefan Reuter, Augsburg general manager had claimed earlier that there are further details to discuss regarding the deal with the Premier League champions over Rahman’s contract.

Baba Rahman had brilliant season with Augsburg last time as he featured in 31 Bundesliga matches and played exceptionally well. Since a long time the player was on Jose Mourinh’s radar as the Portuguese manager an apt cover for Cesar Azpilicueta in the left-back position. Chelsea lost Filipe Luis to Atletico Madrid this summer as the Brazilian opted to move out of the club after just one season due to lack of game time.

The 21-year-old will be reportedly left out of the Augsburg squad or Saturday’s Bundesliga opener against Hertha Berlin.

A month back Baba’s agent had claimed that the player is looking forward to move out of Augsburg to join the European giants.

Chelsea are in search of quality defenders to balance their otherwise world class squad. Club legend and veteran defendr John Terry is 34 now. He is well past his prime and will not be able to serve the club with the same vigour. The defensive weaknesses were exposed last week in the season opener against Swansea City when the defending champions were held for a 2-2 draw after taking the lead twice.

Kurt Zouma is the only quality defender on the Chelsea bench now. The club were linked with Everton youngster John Stones but as things are happening now chances of Stones to Stamford Bridge looks bleak. Baba Rahman to Chelsea will be great deal for the Blues this summer.
