Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a man in demand.
The Gabonese striker has been plying his trade at Borussia Dortmund for over three years now and attracting prominent interest along the way. Given his formidable goal scoring record, it’s hardly surprising.
However, this week has seen Premier League interest in the striker intensify with a departure from Dortmund next summer all but confirmed. It could prove an intriguing scrap between two of England’s biggest clubs.
If Aubameyang can offer anything, it’s goals. The 27-year-old made his name with St. Etienne, but it’s been in the Bundesliga that the forward has truly impressed.
In fact, it proved a match made in heaven from the very start with Aubameyang bagging a hattrick on his debut no less. Overall, the Gabonese star has amassed 87 goals in 150 appearances in a black and yellow jersey so far.
His form this season has been equally impressive also. Seven strikes in as many outings is some start to the new campaign.
Furthermore, the 27-year-old wields the title of FIFA 17’s joint fastest player with a rating of 96 out of 100. In terms of getting behind the opposition’s defence, there are few players who can do it like Aubameyang.
Nevertheless, silverware has been hard to come by for the striker. Given Bayern Munich’s stranglehold on the Bundesliga title, he’s been left to settle for the occasional cup during his time in Germany.
His brilliant goal scoring record and potential frustration in Germany has inevitably attracted the attention of a number of European giants, though. In terms of the Premier League, Manchester City and Chelsea prove the front-runners.
The former were interested in Aubameyang this summer, but not to an extent that they made a bid. However, recent developments suggest that this could be set to change.
According to the Mirror, the 27-year-old will be allowed to leave Dortmund next summer. In addition, it is believed that this wasn’t the case this year due to the departures of Mats Hummels and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Consequently, the Blues and Citizens will be poised to challenge for the forward’s signature. As to who will win this battle, only time will tell.
Real Madrid are also rumoured to be interested, but could ultimately be hampered by their current transfer ban. Therefore, the door is wide open for Aubameyang to join the Premier League.
