Central government is producing documentary film Ranty and other African footballers first time
For the first time in the history of Indian football since the first African footballer David Williams began his journey by signing for Mohammedan Sporting in 1985, the Union ministry of external affairs is going to make a documentary film on the influence of African footballers in India in last 30 years. And in a bid to bring out the perfect scenario on this subject, an hour-long shooting took place at the East Bengal ground on Wednesday morning after the completion of team’s training.
Ranti Martins and Bello Rasaq along with East Bengal’s Kenyan assistant coach Sammy Omolo, all the three African football personalities shared their experience in front of the camera. For some time, they were asked to give interview sitting on the gallery. Sometimes, following requests from the shooting team, they had to juggle the ball also. Later, Ranti said, “Mainly, the interviewer from the shooting team asked me about my career detail and he also wanted to know that along with playing in different clubs in India, whether any social influence on my career in India has grown.”
Sammy Omolo who played for East Bengal in the 1990s and again returned to the team as its assistant coach was also asked about the difference between his time and present time in Indian football. Omolo said, “They wanted to know from me that how football has developed to create an impact on us socially. They were very curious to know whether we, being the African footballers, get invitation to attend any social functions or whether we are invited to attend in any regional festivals in the respective places we live in and play.”
The shooting team also had interviewed Mohun Bagan’s Nigerian striker Dudu Omagbemi in a similar fashion on Thursday. And from Kolkata they will travel to Goa to talk to Odafa Okolie and other African footballers.
