Former Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has lavished praise on Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, comparing him to Dani Alves. The Spaniard joins a host of players left awestruck by the Liverpool right-back who has dominated the game since last couple of years. Alexander-Arnold is already being touted as one of the best to grace the right-back’s position, with Fabregas now validating the same.

Dani Alves has accomplished football and already seen in the bracket as some of the greatest right-backs, Cafu and Zavier Zanetti. The Brazilian holds the record for most trophies won, lifting a total of 43 so far. Lauded for his passing and playmaking, Fabregas feels Alexander-Arnold too shares the same traits as his former teammate Dani Alves.

Fabregas enjoyed the Trent Alexander-Arnold show against Crystal Palace

Fabregas’ praises showered in after Trent Alexander-Arnold put on a stellar show against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Monday [16 August]. Though the Reds failed to pick a first league win of the season, drawing 1-1, Alexander-Arnold was on target for them. He carried out his usual business of chipping in with defying passes and pin-point crosses.

The Liverpool academy player put on staggering numbers against the Eagles, racking up 128 touches, 4 shots, 5 chances created, 4 crosses, 11 long-balls and 26 passes into the final third. He should have finished the game with couple of assists, only for the Liverpool attackers to scramble the chances.

However, Alexander-Arnold did earn high praises from Fabregas, who wrote on Twitter: “Haven’t seen a full back with this range of passing since @DaniAlvesD2 . @TrentAA .”

Fabregas shared the dressing room with Dani Alves at Barcelona for three years, from 2011 to 2014. The duo won a number of trophies together at the Catalan club which included a Club World Cup title, a UEFA Super Cup, a la Liga title, a Copa del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups.

It is safe to say that the World Cup winner has witnessed the greatness of Alves from close, who amassed 22 goals and 104 assists at the Catalan club in 405 appearances. While Trent Alexander-Arnold may be far away from matching the 39-year-old’s feat, he is already on the same path as him.

Coming from the club’s academy, Alexander-Arnold has so far played 229 games for the club, already winning the Premier League as well as the Champions League along with four other trophies. The 23-year-old further has 62 assists and 13 goals to his name as well.
