The two big clubs from London, Chelsea and Arsenal have a very long history and so do their present managers. Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger have been at each other’s backs for a long time but a handshake from both the managers kick started a game that was marred by controversy. Diego Costa in Wenger’s words was lucky not to be sent off twice during the match.
Hazard and Zouma were on the score sheet for the home team as Santi Cazorla and Gabriel Paulista were sent off during the game for the visitors. Here are the player ratings for both the teams.
Asmir Begovic (3): Was not really tested by Arsenal but was solid whenever called upon.
Azpilicueta (3): Stuck to his task and made life hard for Arsenal in the attacking half.
G Cahill (2.5): Showed good presence of mind when needed but had some nervy moments and almost gave Sanchez a gift in the second half.
K Zouma (3.5): Was solid as a rock at the back and never allowed Arsenal to break through. Also got himself a goal with a header from 6 yards.

Fabregas (3.5): Showed his class as he found space in between the Arsenal’s defense. Set up Zouma’s goal with a free kick.
E Hazard (3.5): Not his marauding best but troubled the Arsenal defense whenever he got the chance to. Also got himself a goal in injury time after 90 minutes.
Pedro (3): Showed some pace and urgency in attacks and added to the fluidity of Chelsea that they gained after Arsenal were down to nine men.
Diego Costa (3): Though did not test the Arsenal defense like he wanted to, his antics on the field helped in the sending off of Gabriel. Was on the shoulder of defenders all day irritating them.
Ramires (3): Replaced Oscar for the last 20 minutes. Was full of energy.
L Remy (3): Only played 8 minutes after coming on for Diego Costa
P Cech (3): Could have done better with Zouma’s header but made some fine saves to deny Chelsea.
H Bellerin (3): Was good with his job at containing Hazard for most of the game. Could have conceded a penalty for the challenge on Costa in the second half.
L Koscielny (3.5): Made some important blocks at crucial times and also did well to keep his cool after being hit by Costa’s swinging arm.
Nacho Monreal (3): Was solid till Arsenal were playing with 11 men. Found it difficult after his players were sent off for obvious reasons.
Gabriel Paulista (1.5): Was playing well until he kicked out at Costa as a reply. He was sent off in the first half leaving Arsenal with 10 players.
M Ozil (1.5): Was not his self in a game in which Arsenal needed his game. Was a mere spectator for most of the game.
S Cazorla (1.5): Was not able to control the game like he usually does and was sent of with more than 10 minutes to play after a second yellow for a rash tackle.
A Ramsey (2): Was dwelling too much on the ball at times. But showed some good feet in the second half after moving into a central role.
F Coquelin (3): Was the most solid player at the back for Arsenal. Was however substituted at half time after picking up an injury.
T Walcott (3): Kept Chelsea under pressure making runs behind the back line. However, could not stamp his authority on the game.
A Sanchez (2): Missed some chances at crucial times and was not his sharpest best as he looked like he was struggling.
C Chambers (3): Gave a solid performance in the centre of the midfield after replacing Coquelin at half time.
A Oxlade-Chamberlain (3): Had only 15 minutes to play but was sharp and showed some skill in the time he had.
Olivier Giroud (3): Replaced Sanchez with 15 minutes to play but could not effect the game in any way.
Chelsea have finally got their second victory of the season and now have 7 points out of 6 games. Arsenal will consider themselves unlucky as Costa should have been sent off for all his theatrics on the field.
