Yes, you read that right. Chelsea may not have signed a new player in this transfer window so far but the club are increasingly confident of completing their first summer signing in the form of PSG winger Ezequiel Lavezzi reports respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio. According to the report, the Argentine’s contract with PSG expires in June, and his agents returned to Milan after meeting with Chelsea in London. Chelsea faces strong competition from Inter Milan who haven’t given up on signing Lavezzi. The negotiation with the Blues, however, went well and the English club wants to sign the player on a free transfer for next season, they are just waiting to get the okay from the new manager for next season, he should be picked in the next few hours. (Did you read the last line carefully!?)

Lavezzi, 30, is out of contract at PSG at the end of the season and looks set to leave after finding himself down the pecking order in Laurent Blanc’s first-team plans this season.

Lavezzi has played 16 matches for PSG in Ligue 1 this season but has played the full-90 minutes on one occasion only.13 of his 16 appearances have been from the bench. Lavezzi is behind Lucas Moura and Angel Di Maria in the PSG pecking order and his chances of getting into the starting XI anytime soon look bleak.

The Argentine is therefore looking for a move away from PSG with Chelsea, Napoli and Inter Milan all keen to sign the attacker on a free transfer. According to ESPN sources Chelsea were exploring the possibility of signing Lavezzi in January but were told that a move was not possible. However, Chelsea are now extremely confident of signing Lavezzi and are just waiting for the go-ahead from their new manager (Don’t ask me who).
