Chelsea make signing Antonio Conte a priority
Chelsea have been looking to secure a manager over the coming summer to replace Guus Hiddink, who has clearly stated that he won’t be staying past the summer at Stamford Bridge. With the long term plan that Chelsea board had intended with Mourinho all but a major failure, there aren’t many elite managers who are ready to take charge of the Blues. Ancelloti has already been earmarked as the replacement for Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich, while Pep himself looks to be heading to the Blue of Manchester. Managers like Deschamps and Capello are being considered risky due to their long stay away from management so far.
The only two viable options that remain are Jorge Sampaoli and Antonio Conte. Both of them are impressive managers but Sampaoli owes most of his success to Chile’s scintillating run in the FIFA World Cup as well as their capture of Copa America. But Conte has been credited with the establishment of a dynasty over at Turin where he won three consecutive titles along with a smattering of cups with the Old Lady, Juventus. The core team under his command had reached the peak last season, under Max Allegri, as they reached the Champions League final against almost impossible odds.
A major factor is that Conte is in charge of the Italian National Team only till the Euros in the summer, after which, he wants to return to the hustle and bustle of everyday football. It makes a very logical decision to pursue his signature on the dotted line, from Chelsea’s as well as his own perspective and hence, major betting sites have as much as halved the odds of Conte being the new Chelsea manager, come the new season.
