Premier League clubs Manchester United and Chelsea are set to join forces at academy level as the move could help both the club to improve their respective academies.
Both the clubs have recently sent their academies to St George’s Park, which is touted to be the home of Football Association (FA), where they can play against each other which could help in their development.
The move will see a significant increase in the level of playing as it moves players away from their comfort zone and can help them in a huge way when they move to senior team that competes at the highest level.
According to Daily Mail, both clubs are determined to reaffirm their status as the best academies in England by playing in the elite ground.
Manchester United’s academy is one of the most prestigious youth developing centers in entire Europe as it has found the incredible success it had in the past two decades mainly because of the home grown players.
However, the Red Devils currently have only Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard from their academy who hardly made an impact this season and the club are determined to get their academy back to its previous level when it produced the likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and David Beckham to name a few.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s youth academy was heavily criticized as the Blues often loan out their youngsters as part of their development. The policy was lashed out by many former players, pundits and managers as it leaves players to only join teams in other leagues and they have very minor chances of breaking into the first team.
Despite all the criticism, Chelsea youth team have managed to win FA Youth Cup in five of the last seven seasons.
