Chelsea target Faouzi Ghoulam would opt for a move to Bayern Munich over the Blues, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by Calciomercato.
Ghoulam has firmly established himself as one of the Serie A’s best left-backs during his time at Napoli. He has made 119 appearances for the Italian giants, but has never found the back of the net in a Napoli shirt. His good form in Italy appears to have captured the attention of some household names from abroad.
As per Calciomercato both Chelsea, Juventus and Bayern Munich are all interested in securing his services. The Blues are in dire need of a new left-back, with Marcos Alonso being Antonio Conte’s only option in that position. He may have to look elsewhere than Ghoulam, however.
La Gazzetta dello Sport believe that the Algerian would prefer a move to Bayern over joining Chelsea. That’s a bitter blow for Conte.
Ghoulam’s major strength is going forward; he is a pacey player who can not only cross, but also play through balls as shown by making one key pass per game last year.
He likes to overlap but doesn’t just pump the ball into the box, he is an intelligent player who often makes the right decisions and this is something that would have fitted perfectly in Conte’s patient system.
Defensively, the Algerian is more modern in the sense that he uses his positional sense to get out of trouble as opposed to strength. Ghoulam is not a tough tackler and he isn’t one to try and bully a winger out of a game, he instead stays close to his centre back, but can also step out of the defensive line to make interceptions at good times.
