Chelsea lodge surprise bid for Edinson Cavani, Diego Simeone wants him next season
Even though Chelsea lost the away match against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions league, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has found a new solution to the club’s goal scoring woes in the form of PSG striker Edinson Cavani, according to TuttoMercatoweb. It is reported that the Russian was so awestruck with the performance of the Uruguayan, and is willing to lodge a bid for the striker in the coming summer transfer window.
The game saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic opening the scoring with a deflected free-kick before Mikel of Chelsea restored parity before halftime. However, the introduction of Cavani as a substitute paid dividends as he scored the decisive winning goal.
However, the decision to buy the striker is still undecided as Chelsea is not even sure about the future of their interim manager Guus Hiddink who replaced Jose Mourinho, who was sacked lsat December after a string of poor performances from the team.
Since then, the team has revived in form as they remained unbeaten under the tenure of Hiddink, until yesterday, which saw the Dutchman’s first defeat since coming on as the Chelsea manager in December.
The 29-year-old striker enjoyed terrific stints with Palermo and Napoli before joining PSG in 2013. But despite a decent goal tally, the players life at France has been marooned by injuries, which halted his progress. He has scored 70 goals for the Parisans from 127 appearances across all competitions.
It is also on the back of the towering striker that, he has always been pushed down the limelight due to the talismanic presence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic who has been enjoying a cult status in Paris.
Along with Chelsea, some other European giants such as Juventus and Atletico Madrid are also keeping a tab, waiting to pounce once the player decides to leave the club.
