Chelsea Ready to Offer In-Form Player a Contract Extension to Ward-Off Interests from Barcelona
Antonio Conte and Chelsea will be the happiest team in the league at the moment after an emphatic victory over Tottenham Hotspur gave them a place at the top of the points table, 13 games into the season.
The Blues have been superb of late, winning their last 7 games, conceding just 1 goal in the process. The manager seems to have found a winning formula he is happy to stick with and will surely try to keep the team going like this for as long as he can.
But the form of his star players might see clubs from around Europe make a move in January and one such player who is recently linked with a move to Barcelona is winger/ wingback Victor Moses.
The Nigerian international is a utility player in the every sense of the word and is one of the most experienced players in the Premier League having spent time out on loan for more than 3 years in England.
The 25-year old has been in sublime form, scoring the winner against Tottenham and he has become an integral part of the squad and is one of the first names on the team sheet in the last few games for Conte.
However, he has been linked with a move to La Liga with Luis Enrique reportedly interested in his signature to add some versatility to his squad at the Camp Nou.
Moses has helped lend balance to the Chelsea squad with Conte having no other options in a right-wing back role. He has excelled in that role in the last few games scoring 4 goals in 14 appearances this season.
He has spent time away on loan at Stoke, Liverpool and West Ham but has become a genuine first team player for the first time this season at Chelsea.
He is currently contracted with the club till 2019 and Chelsea should not really be worried till the end of the next season but with Europe’s biggest club calling, Conte is now wary of his position and wants to tie him to the club for the long term.
At his age, Moses will only get better with more playing time under his belt and Chelsea will be devastated if they lose him in January.
But the manager is now adamant to keep the Nigerian at the club and is now ready to offer him a contract extension that might ward off interests from outside.
According to reports today, Chelsea and Victor Moses are set to open talks about a contract extension and it is also reported that Moses is happy at the club and will put pen to paper as soon as the terms are agreed.
A move to Barcelona is hard to reject but with Moses becoming an integral part at the Bridge, it might be suicidal for him not to accept the new contract and shift to Spain.
Do you think Chelsea are right to offer Moses a new contract or should they let him go in January?
