Chelsea are planning to launch a bumper €100 million bid for Real Madrid sensation Federico Valverde, according to El Nacional. The Blues’ owner Todd Boehly is preparing to make a bold transfer move, targeting the 24-year-old Uruguayan for a summer move. Boehly has reportedly prepared a blank check for the star midfielder and is willing to offer a fee in triple figures to land him.

El Nacional reports that this is Boehly’s next move, following a spending spree that has seen Chelsea splash a whopping €600 million on new recruits since he took over the club last summer. However, the American billionaire is still not ready to curb the expenses, as he plans another statement signing on back-to-back summer spending sprees. Chelsea are also eyeing to offload some of their star players of the dressing room in order to facilitate newcomers in the summer.

Chelsea ready to cross the €100m mark in back-to-back transfer windows

Despite their impressive signings across the summer as well as winter transfer windows, the Chelsea owner is still unhappy with the team’s competitive level, particularly in certain areas of the field. There is no such thing as too much talent for the ambitious West London club, who are looking to bolster their squad even further after signing players like Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez, while paying €121m for the latter making him the costliest midfielder in the history of Britain.

However, the midfield in particular, has been identified as an area that still requires significant improvement. This is due to N’Golo Kante’s injury woes and manager Graham Potter’s lack of faith in players like Carney Chukwuemeka and others. Moreover, Mateo Kovacic, who has often worn the captain’s armband this season is also expected to leave in the summer since his contract expires in the summer of 2024 and the club are neither interested in offering him an extension, nor letting him leave for free.

As a result, Boehly has a set list of transfer targets, and at the top of that list is Fede Valverde, a player who has also piqued the interest of Manchester United and Liverpool. The Reds even attempted to sign the midfielder after the Champions League final last summer, but the Los Blancos’ president Florentino Perez turned them down. But Boehly is ready to offer a fee in the excess of €100m for Valverde, meaning the Blues would have completed €100m+ deals in back-to-back transfer windows.

Valverde is regarded as a key player in Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid plans and a cornerstone of the club’s long-term plans. According to El Nacional, the midfielder is also not interested in leaving the La Liga giants, as he and his wife have repeatedly expressed their happiness in the Spanish capital. Moreover, Valverde is enjoying his best season so far at the Bernabeu, netting an impressive 12 goals and recording 4 assists in 42 games.

The Uruguayan has already won it all with Real Madrid, but is evidently hungry for more. His current deal at the club runs through the summer of 2027, meaning he is bound to fetch the kind of money Chelsea are ready to pay for him, if he decides to leave the club. However, the possibility of it is far from reality given the player has pledged his loyalties to the club who nurtured him in their academy before presenting him on the biggest stage.
