Chelsea roundup: Conte hails the youngster, double injury boost and more interesting stories!

Chelsea has had a difficult start under new manager Antonio Conte as they have failed to land their targets in the summer transfer window and have faced few difficulties in the opening weeks.

However, Conte has switched the system to 3-5-2 in an attempt to make their defense more solid which has helped Blues three consecutive games in Premier League as they have demolished Manchester United 4-0 at Stamford Bridge. The Blues will be hoping to continue their good form in the coming weeks as they have a genuine chance to challenge for Premier League this season.

Here we look at all the stories around Chelsea today.

Italian champions Juventus have joined the race to sign French teenage sensation Franck Kessie, according to reports.

The 19-year old is a target for Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea. He is expected to leave his current club Atlanta this January amid increasing interest. According to TMW, Juventus has been scouting the teenager in the recent weeks as they are keen to keep him in Italy.

Antonio Conte has hailed on-loan Bristol City striker Tammy Abraham as “the future for Chelsea”. Abraham has been in sensational form in the Championship since moving to Bristol City as part of his development.

The 19-year old has so far managed 11 goals in 17 appearances for Bristol City this season and will look to continue his good form which will help him break into the starting lineup at Chelsea.

“Abraham is another young player who is the future for Chelsea, for sure,” Conte said. “He’s very young. I saw him only one week during the preseason in America.

“Then we decided to send him to play every game and get experience, then come back for us. He has great potential in the technical and physical aspects.

“I think the academy is working very well. Also in my squad we have Chalobah, Aina, Solanke, Loftus-Cheek. You can see the future and it’s good.”

Conte has confirmed John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic are fit to face West Ham in the EFL cup clash on Tuesday while Willian is also expected to return to the match squad.

Asked about Terry, Conte said: “He’s fit to start. He’s in a good shape. Tomorrow I’ll decide the starting XI but John is fit. He trained very well this week, last week, and he’s ready.

“For Ivanovic, he’s better. He started to train with us yesterday, also today, but it’s normal after an injury he needs a bit of time to find the right shape to come back with our squad.

“Cesc [Fabregas] is still not well. We must wait because he had a muscular problem and we are waiting. We must be patient because the muscular problem is tight. I hope to see him very soon with the team in the training session.

“Willy is in a good moment now [mentally]. Before the moment wasn’t good for him. You know the reason. He’s a fantastic man, a very good boy and we love him because he’s a fantastic man before a fantastic player.”

Chelsea and Leicester City are keen to sign Inter Milan striker Gabriel Barbosa, according to reports in Italy.

The 20-year old has moved to Inter Milan from Santos earlier this summer for £25m but has so far failed to break into the first team.

He has managed a mere 16 minutes at the club over the last two months and is looking increasingly frustrated with his position. The Brazilian could be tempted to force a move in January if the situation does not change, reports Calciomercato.

German club Borussia Monchengladbach are desperate to keep Chelsea loan star Andreas Christensen beyond his two year loan spell that will be ending next summer.

The 21-year old Denmark international has developed into one of the best defenders in Germany and Chelsea are expected to integrate into their first team next summer. However, Gladbach are keen to have him for a longer duration if a permanent deal is not possible.

“It will be a hard task but I am hopeful that we can do it,” Eberl told Sky Deutschland.

“We probably won’t buy him but maybe there’s another way. And even if he has only been with us for two years, that would be a great story.”
