Chelsea star makes shocking claim about Mourinho ahead of Man United clash

Victor Moses has claimed Jose Mourinho never spoke to him during his time as Chelsea manager.

Moses has fought his way into Antonio Conte’s Chelsea team this season after being farmed out on loan under former boss Mourinho.

Moses scored his third goal of the season in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Leicester last weekend and could start when Mourinho makes his first return to Stamford Bridge as Manchester United boss on Sunday.

And the Blues winger has fired an early shot at his old boss by accusing Mourinho of not giving him a chance to impress.

“He never spoke to me,” Moses told ESPN FC. “I thought in my head, ‘He’s got his own players already.’

“I think we chatted a couple of times on the phone – he asked if I was alright at Liverpool [where Moses spent the 2013/14 season on loan], but that was it.”

Moses then spent the 2014/15 at Stoke before another loan spell at a Premier League rival with West Ham last season.

But the 25-year-old now looks to be a key player for Chelsea under new boss Conte – who he says is giving more players the opportunity to shine.

“The manager who is here now is giving everyone a chance – even the young lads,” Moses added.

“I’m pleased that he’s here and I’ve just got to go out there and enjoy my football. As long as you work hard, the manager will see it and he’ll give you an opportunity.

“When the new manager came in, I just wanted to see how it went. It’s a blessing for me that he enjoys the way I play and appreciates the effort I put in. It gives you a lot of confidence when the manager believes in you.”

Moses has learned a new position under Conte, operating at right wing-back in the Italian’s recently implemented 3-4-3 formation.

“I’ve never actually played the position before,” the Nigeria international admitted: “I kind of like it. As long as I’m helping the team, I just want to play football.

“I’ve got [Cesar] Azpilicueta next to me as well and he’s always talking to me, making sure I’m in the right position. He makes it a lot easier for me because he understands the role more than I do. That’s helped me [defensively], and offensively it’s given me the chance to get the ball one vs. one and go at defenders. That’s good for the team and good for me.

“The formation we’re playing really suits the way I play, and the other players as well. We’re very intense, we want to shut down our opponents and get the ball forward on counter-attacks. We’re looking solid at the back at the moment as well, so we’re very pleased with that.”
