Chelsea are edging closer to making a move for Atletico Madrid striker Jackson Martinez, who is really unsettled at Vicente CalDeron. It appeared that Arsenal were monitoring the Colombian for a Summer move, however, striker’s agent revealed that Chelsea are interested in signing the player as early as in January.
Martinez’s agent Henrique Pompei has revealed that his client is seeking a move away from La Liga with Chelsea appearing as the probale destination.
Speaking with Football Espana Pompei said: ‘Jackson wants to succeed at Atletico, but it’s the club who will decide his future,’ he is quoted as saying by Football Espana.
‘I can’t say [Chelsea’s interest] is a lie, this is football and no-one knows what will happen in the future.’
It is believed that Diego Costa’s time in London will come to an end once the season finishes as he is eyeing a move back to Atletico Madrid in an attempt to kick-start his season. Spanish newspaper Marca are keen to link the player back to his former club as both the parties are keen on a move in the summer.
Chelsea are still fresh from Jose Mourinho’s sacking and while Guus Hiddink begins his attempt at taking the club higher in the table, he is being given the freedom to sign players like Jackson Martinez in January.
Chelsea’s other striker options are Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao, who have not quite hit the heights and are not the ones who can play at the highest level under their current level of confidence. If Chelsea are to finish higher in the league, they need players who can score goals and Martinez is seen as the most viable option to go with in the January transfer window.
