The signing of the season I am talking about is West Ham’s Dimitri Payet. While people were raving about the likes of big-money signings Depay, Benteke, Firmino, Pedro and Martial at the start of the season, the real signing of the season has been West Ham’s Payet. The Frenchman has taken the Premier League by storm. It is largely due to his contributions that the Hammers are 6th in the Barclays Premier League table just 2 points adrift of Manchester United and well ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool.
Payet signed for West Ham in June last year for a sum of just over £10m and the fact that West Ham rejected a £38m bid for him just a couple of days back proves just how high his real worth is. But, that hasn’t stopped Premier League’s elite from making a move for Payet. Over the last few weeks Arsenal and Manchester City have been linked with moves for the West Ham midfielder but Maxi Foot believe that Chelsea have joined the race for his signature.
Payet would be an asset for any team irrespective of their wealth of midfielders and it is no surprise that three of the biggest Premier League clubs are after him. Payet missed 2 months of Premier League action but in spite of that he has 6 goals and 4 assists to his name.
West Ham, though, are taking no risks and are in discussion with him for a new and improved contract. Payet has also stated his desire to stay with the Hammers. This is what his tweet read:
I say & I repeat I’m proud to wear the shirt of west ham
My future is here and I hope for many years https://t.co/wgPZMQl9SN @whufc_official— Dimitri Payet (@dimpayet17) February 9, 2016
But, having said that Payet may leave the Hammers for Green pastures (Champions League Football) and if a club make West Ham an offer that is too good to refuse, Payet might be plying his trade elsewhere.
