Chelsea Transfer Round-Up: No big signing in sight for league leaders Chelsea
Jose Mourinho has come out in the media and spoken about his inability to make moves for Angel Di Maria and Falcao during the summer of 2014, as that he couldn’t afford it as per financial fair play and even if he could muster the finances, he would have lost the dressing room if such superstars arrived at Stamford Bridge due to disparity in wages. Nevertheless let’s find out how the current rumors around Chelsea in this transfer window.
Five Clubs in for Mohamed Salah
While the Financial Fair Play is big obstacle in letting Chelsea spend in this window, it is more likely there will be departures rather than any arrival at Stamford Bridge in this January transfer window, moreover with the form Chelsea is in there wouldn’t be much addition required either. One name which has been linked to several clubs is Mohammed Salah, he has not seen much action since his move from Basel last year. He is currently linked with five clubs; Roma, Inter Milan, Hull City, Besiktas and Fiorentina. Mourinho on the other hand is adamant that with a thin squad he doesn’t see any movement for Salah on loan until the club purchases a direct marquee replacement for him.
Juan Cuadrado to “The Bridge”
The Colombian starred for the national side in the World Cup and the great run of the national team did a world of good for his reputation as well. He was even rumored with a move to Manchester United last summer. Recent rumor suggests that Chelsea is interested in testing Fiorentina’s resolve over the explosive winger, but the Italian club is adamant in not dealing below the supposed 27 million pound release clause. If he makes a move to Chelsea his dribbling skills and pace would definitely lighten up the premier league.
Andre Schurrle to Wolfsburg
On the back of a solid campaign at Bayer Leverkusen, Andre Schurrle earned a five year contract and completed a move to Chelsea in 2013-14. He was tracked for a long time and he had a decent first campaign for The Blues, but in 2014-15 campaign he has been criticized by Mourinho in his on and off appearances and has definitely fallen in the pecking order. He is now rumored to a move back to Bundesliga, as Wolfsburg is getting a 23 million pound deal ready for the out of favor Chelsea attacker.
Alvaro Arbeola to reunite with Mourinho
As Jose Mourinho approaches the end of this campaign, he would like to play out his cards as per he well measured tactical master class, and in order to achieve the aforementioned, is currently planning to bring back one of his trusted men back from La Liga. Alvaro Arbeola had a good run in under Mourinho at real Madrid in 2012 and 2013 and is still in touch with the special one. The full back might look for a change of scenery with Chelsea as the likely destination.
Islam Feruz to Blackpool
Somalia-born Chelsea striker Islam Feruz has moved to Blackpool on loan for the remainder of the season. Feruz moved to Chelsea from Scottish side Celtic and has been a regular feature in the FA Youth Cup and Barclays U21 Premier League squad.
As it stands there is lack of activity at Stamford Bridge in the current transfer window, with no sight of any major transfer going through. There might be couple of loan deals on the horizons but that will be related to the younger member of the squad. With Jose Mourinho insistence on playing with a fixed squad, it will be interesting to see how he copes up with the squad at this disposal at the business end of the season.
