The Blues are now 6 points clear in the Premier League table and have a very strong chance to go 9 points clear. The game ended 2-3 in Chelsea’s favor but it was not a very convincing performance according to Chelsea standards but in the end all that matters now is three points in the bag. Here are five taking points from this game.
Courtois Hero Or Villian
Courtois looked confident for the very first minute on the pitch made a few incredible saves but also made an awfully hilarious mistake which lead to Hull City’s unexpected equalizer and put Chelsea under a lot of pressure. We have seen keepers with brilliant ball control but many have failed in attempting trickeries and the outcome has been hilarious. But Courtois in the end saved the day by making 3 jaw dropping saves with 10 seconds and remained a hero.
Chelsea Can’t Handle Pressure
Chelsea always complacent with a 2-0 lead, but when out of form, they concede goals as the opponent’s pressure. We have seen this nature of Chelsea in many games also once when the lead is gone they find it hard to retain it.
The Right Side Conundrum
Chelsea should focus more on the defensive part of the Right Flank. Branislav Ivanovic gives a new offensive dimension to attack, but he’s not at his best these days so it is not necessary for him to bomb forward. His defending is good and must be made to stay vulnerable on the right hand side which was clearly reflected yesterday as Hull’s first goal was initiated form there and the main reason behind this is an uneven attack and defense balance between Ivanovic and Willian.
The Midfield Trio
Chelsea’s central midfield trio is out of defensive form, and are unable to win possession quick in the middle like before. Hence the back four is subjected to a lot of long ball attacks. This became more exposable after Matic’s suspension and Fabregas’s bad patch.
Cesc Fabregas’s Bad Patch
Since past 4-5 seasons Fabregas has been a half season man, that is he gives top notch performance till January and after that his battery drains out. The most noticeable change in Fabrega’s style has been that he is struggling in a deep position because it wears him out while doing the defensive role but he’s pretty good when played forward as he was involved in almost every build up play and also initiated some.
