Jurgen Klopp led Liverpool have shown utter dominance against Chelsea in their own backyard as the Reds clinch three crucial points in a tough match.
The result meant Jurgen Klopp became the first manager since Arsene Wenger in 1997 to win first two games away at Stamford Bridge. The Reds have been clinical in their attacks while Blues defense looks terribly off balance to counter the Reds’ attacks. Here we look at the player ratings of both the teams as Liverpool clearly dominated the proceedings.
Chelsea
Courtois- 6
Terribly exposed by Blues defense, Courtois managed to pull a couple of decent saves despite being helpless at times.
Ivanovic -5
The Serbian has now been clearly past his best as he is edging towards the end of his career. He looked the weakest link in Blues defense in the game.
Luiz – 5
The new signing has found it tough to cope with the Reds forwards as he has been very poor in the centre of the defense.
Cahill- 5
The English defender has definitely had one of the bad days in Chelsea shirt as he failed to make any impact in defense. His clearance fell straight to Henderson who scored an absolute stunner.
Azpilicueta – 6
The left back has linked with Hazard to make some overruns in Reds defense. He was not great in the defense but was okay while going forward.
Matic -6
The Serbian international have had a poor outing despite providing the assist to Diego Costa for their only goal.
Kante- 6
Only bright spot in Chelsea midfield. His distribution of the ball has been very good througout the game but have failed to make much difference.
Hazard- 6
The Belgian has had some splendid runs deep into Liverpool defense but could not find a way to break the resolute Reds’ defense as he failed in finishing skills from the edge of the box.
Willian- 5
Did not have a great match as he was booked in the game. There was little amount of threat from the right side as Ivanovic has failed to link up with him in attack.
Oscar -5
Tried to force things but was inefficient throughout the game. Conte might have to look at Fabregas in the coming games.
Costa- 6
Scored the only goal of Chelsea but have looked very poor as the Reds were up to the mark as they countered with physical play with efficiency.
Liverpool
Mignolet- 6
Failed in his pass distribution more than once and had the defense under pressure. Had little to do but overall managed a decent outing.
Clyne- 7
Linked up with the attack very well as he made deep runs into Chelsea defense and opened up spaces for others to attack.
Lovren- 8
Opened the scoring for the Reds and have shown a lot of quality in the defense as he linked up well with Matip to counter Diego Costa’s threat.
Matip- 7
The new signing has impressed a lot for the opening hour but has needlessly conceded opened up Diego Costa for Chelsea’s goal. He is the one to look forward for the Reds this season.
Milner- 7
The midfielder who now operates as left back for Klopp has been more than decent as his vision has helped the Reds to make good attacking runs. He did a very decent job in defense as well.
Wijnaldum – 8
The Dutch international have shown why he is so highly rated by Klopp as he put the best performance in Liverpool shirt till date. He was very impressive as he looked steady in the middle of the park.
Henderson – 9
Man of the match without a second thought! He was creative, intelligent in the middle of the pitch and capped it off with a stunning strike to give the Reds a two goal lead going into halftime.
Lallana- 7
The midfielder have made a decent contribution to the Reds with his impressive work rate as he passed the ball to dangerous areas to open up Chelsea defense.
Coutinho -8
The Brazilian was at the centre of Reds attack as he helped Reds open the scoring with a sublime cross to Lovren.
Mane- 7
His energy, pace and creativity caused a lot of problems to the Blues defense. Definitely not one of the best performances that he has been producing over the last month but a decent one to get three points.
Sturridge- 7
He has shown little skills as he looked very sharp throughout the 57 minutes he played. He was subbed off in view of his fitness issues.
