Chelsea have identified Liverpool’s Rickie Lambert as the ideal back-up to Diego Costa ahead of their title defense next season. Lambert has endured a troubling time since making dream move to Anfield last summer.
Rickie Lambart has featured in just games 16 for Liverpool this season and only 6 of those have been from the kick off. Lambart has scored just 2 goals for the club he dreamt of playing since his childhood. Lambart’s troubles have been down to Brendan Rodgers not trusting the former Southampton hitman.
Chelsea see the possibility of making a swoop for the Englishman, who was brought by Liverpool for a fee of £4million. Chelsea could be asked to meet the same value or in the region of £2-3million to secure his services.
Lambert will bring in goals with him, wherever he plays. His track record of 106 goals in 197 games for the saints speak the volume of his ability on the pitch. Chelsea will indeed benefit from having Lambert as the back-up striker to the injury prone Diego Costa.
Jose Mourinho was left frustrated with the continuous injury woes for Diego Costa this season. Mourinho had Didier Drogba and Loic Remy as his other strikers out of which Drogba will leave the club next season and Remy was on the treatment table far more than spending time on the pitch.
Chelsea will make a move for Lambart once the transfer window opens and with Liverpool deciding to put their faith in the touch players, Lambart could be forced out of Anfield and Chelsea could reap the benefits at the expense of Liverpool.
