Premier League side Everton have apparently rejected a £20 million bid by league champions Chelsea FC for their yong English defender John Stones. John Stones had joined the Merseyside club in 2013 at the age 19 from Barnsley.
After a spending a season on the bench, the youngster progressed quickly and manager Roberto Martinez swiftly promoted the player to first team. He had an exceptional season last time with Everton and was one of standout performer for the side. His impressive and consistent performances earned him a senior national team call up. He played in 4 matches for England in 2014.
Chelsea FC were keen on signing the player since the conclusion of last season. The English media had reported few months back that Stones was stringly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. Fresh reports suggest that Chelsea had actually placed huge bid of £20million for the defender but the Toffees have rejected the bid and are not ready to leave their promising young talent.
Jose Mourinho’s current squad is one of the best in the Premier league on paper. They have quality attackforce with Diego Costa, Loic Remy and new addition Radamel Falcao. A strong midfield with Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian etc. The defense is also pretty strong with the presence of ever green and towering personality of John Terry. But it has to be taken into consideration that Terry is 34 now. He can play properly for maximum another season.
The manager has Kurt Zouma in his hands alongside the experienced Gary Cahill but an English young defender would have been perfect for the squad.
A statistical comparison between John Stones and Chelsea center backs:
The image gives us a clear idea that Stones had a much better year than any other Chelsea defender except John Terry. Thus, the rejection of Chelsea’s bid will come as a great jolt for the Blues.
