Chelsea’s John Terry Ruled Out For Three Weeks With Muscle Injury

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has confirmed that captain John Terry will be out for two to three weeks due to a muscle problem.
The 35-year old, who will turn 36 next month, has lost his place in the first team after suffering an ankle injury against Swansea as Conte has preferred to have a back three of David Luiz, Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill.
Terry has played an important role when Chelsea started the season as Conte has asked the board to give him a contract extension until the end of the ongoing season. The Blues skipper was impressive in the opening weeks before suffering an ankle injury.
However, a change in the system meant the Blues back have been more solid as they are currently on a six-game winning streak in the Premier League and will face Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The veteran defender has also played with the U-23s last week to ensure he is fit alongside other senior squad players like Cesc Fabregas, Michy Batshuayi and Kurt Zouma.
‘John has a problem with a gluteal muscle,’ said Conte. ‘Maybe two, three weeks. I’m not sure if the injury was during the game for the U23s or the day after. But that’s not important. The bad news is now he’s injured.
‘It is frustrating for him but now it’s important for John to recover from his injury.
‘Then start a good training session and to have a good form. It’s a pity because he recovered very well from his last injury. Now he needs to stop again.’
Apart from Terry, John Obi Mikel will also miss the game against Tottenham due to a muscle problem as Conte has a near complete squad at his disposal for the biggest test after switching to the new system.
