Benfica Coach admits Manchester United target could leave

Just a few hours are left for the transfer window to shut and it looks like Manchester United have woken up from their slumber. According to reports in Portugal, Manchester United have tabled a bid for 18-year-old midfielder Renato Sanches.

According to O Jogo Manchester United have tabled a €30 million (£22m) bid for the 18-year-old. The report also adds that United are in “advanced talks” over signing the player before the window closes.

Sanches signed a new contract in November last year and has a reported release clause set at €45 million which may well indicate why Benfica are not losing sleep over Manchester United’s interest in their player.

Benfica have said they are unworried by suggestions Manchester United are lining up a bid for teenage midfielder Renato Sanches.

Benfica coach Rui Vitoria says midfielder Renato Sanches could be set to leave the club amid Manchester United interest.

“Renato is mature beyond his age,” Vitoria told SportTV”He is being protected by a group of players who support him and are giving him a lot of help.

“This situation is not difficult for us. If things happen, they happen. We all know that’s the way it is. There is no point in worrying over things that have yet to happen.

“There is no drama about all this. The team is very stable and that helps dealing with speculation like this.”

If a deal for Sanches does go through it will be very similar to the Anthony Martial transfer. Just like Martial, Renato Sanches is unheard of, will cost a lot of money, is a teenager, and is yet to play a lot of first-team football. United fans must hope that he is able to justify his price tag.

Renato Sanches broke into the Benfica senior team this season but has already represented Portugal across various youth levels 40 times.
