Conte to make decision on Chelsea defender after US tour
Chelsea defender and US international Matt Miazga has denied speculations of him leaving the club on a loan as he has not heard anything from new manager Antonio Conte. The 21-year old is keen to be focused on the ongoing preseason in the United States.
The defender is an unused substitute in their 3-2 defeat against Real Madrid which means he was not used in a second consecutive match in the preseason. Earlier Miazga was expected to leave on loan, but the player ensured that no decision was made so far on his future.
When asked about Miazga staying at Chelsea for the upcoming season, Conte said: “About [Miazga’s] situation, I prefer to speak with the club.
“With the club, we are agreed that after this period, and after I have seen the situation with the players, we must take together the right decision for the player, for the club. It’s important this.”
Miazga who has moved to Chelsea back in January this year has managed only two appearances for Blues till now and things have been more challenging adjusting under new coach Conte. However, the player feels it is an ongoing process.
“There’re different philosophies and methods; attacking philosophies and the way we’re defending, our shape and all that stuff,” he said.
“We’re working hard to fulfill that philosophy and continue to work. It’s preseason, so there’s obviously going to be some moments where we can improve.”
