According to a revelation made by Daily Star Sport, Cristiano Ronaldo missed out on his mammoth bonuses of £3 million from Manchester United last season.

The £3 million were to be paid in the dividends of £1 million each for if the striker achieved three different feats with the club. However, it seems Ronaldo has lost out on his £3 million from the Red Devils.

The Portuguese made an unexpected return to United last summer, when he was actually close to joining their city rivals Manchester City.

Ronaldo however took a massive pay-cut to sign for United from Juventus in a deal worth £12.5 million. While he did score 24 goals in 38 games on his return, last season still turned out to be an underwhelming one for United.

The ‘three commandments’ which would have earned Cristiano Ronaldo £3 million

Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly took a wage cut of almost £425k-a-week from his £900k-a-week contract to settle in at United on a two-year contract.

However, United promised their returning hero a lucrative £3 million in bonuses as a thankful gesture for him taking a pay-cut.

Each of the £1 million of the £3 million was to be paid if Ronaldo guided United to a top-four finish, won the UEFA Player of The Year Award or added a sixth Ballon d’Or to his collection.

As evident, Ronaldo fell short of completing of every objective needed to claim the £3 million. Despite his 18 goals in the Premier League, United finished sixth in the table relegating them to the Europa League.

Further on, United have gone a fifth straight year without a trophy which means Ronaldo would stand nowhere near the podiums of the individual awards required to win those bonuses.

While they were saved from paying the £3 million may seem as a blessing in disguise for United, Ronaldo did drop a bombshell on them. The 37-year-old has requested a transfer away from United after fulfilling just 12 months of his contract.

Ronaldo, a five-time Champions League winner wants to continue his record of not missing out from the competition for over 15 years now.

The Portugal captain is hence busy finding a new club for himself as he has not travelled with the team for the preseason. Meanwhile, new manager Erik ten Hag is still hopeful of Cristiano Ronaldo staying at club beyond this season.
