The wait is over as Cristiano Ronaldo is all set to make his debut in Seria A tonight despite Genoa’s bridge incident.
Cristiano Ronaldo will make his Seria A debut with Juventus tonight.
After a collapse of a motorway bridge on Tuesday morning, 39 people died and a state of emergency has been declared. Dozens of vehicles fell a total of 148 feet (45m). Rescuers now suggests that it is unlikely that any more survivors will be found.
The Italian league have already postponed Sampdoria’s clash with Fiorentina and AC Milan’s fixture against Genoa. The local sides requested postponements in order to mourn.
However, Juventus are set to face Chievo in their opening game tonight, where Ronaldo was about to make his Seria A debut. Though, Sampdoria chairman Massimo Ferrero spoke with Andrea Agnelli. He suggested the Scudetto holders to request their match to be called off.

Massimo Ferrero said:
“I talked with Agnelli, he told me Juventus won’t be playing. It’s impossible to think about playing football. We think that, in front of tragedies like the one that happened in Genoa, everything else become secondary. In this moment it should be worth that the Italian football stopped. We should mourn and respect the mourning of tens of families. Football is passion and fun. But this is a moment of pain: we should all be close to Genoa and its casualties.”
However, a statement of Seria A suggested that all matches not involving sides local to Genoa will go ahead. The players instead will hold a minute’s silence and will wear blank armbands to honour the victims.
And Seria A have finalized their decision that the matches will go on. Juventus will face Chievo at the Marcantonio Bentegodi.
