— Champions League (@ChampionsLeague) August 28, 2014
Cristiano Ronaldo:”I’m really really happy. I have to say thank you to my team-mates, because without the team individual awards are impossible.
“It was amazing, something that Madrid had looked to do for many years. As Madrid players we feel as though you have to win the Champions League. It was a fantastic season – we won the Champions League, the Spanish Cup and the [UEFA] Super Cup.”
Ronaldo broke Lionel Messi‘s record of 14 goals in a season, after he scored 17 goals in 11 appearances in the Champions League last season, as he helped Real Madrid to win the first UCL title since 2002. He also won the Ballon D’or and European Golden boot last season.
Ronaldo also scored twice as Real Madrid beat Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup last week. Ronaldo also helped Portugal to qualify for the World Cup, scoring a hat-trick against Sweden in the World Cup qualifying stages.
