19 games into the Premier League season, Aston Villa who had two managers in that space have taken just 8 points and sit 20th in the Premier League table. The January transfer window gives the manager an opportunity to strengthen the squad and try to get them to safety.

In a bid to clear up space for potential signings and loan spells in the squad, Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has cut short Liverpool defender Tiago Lloris’ loan spell at the club. This will see the player end up at Melwood pre-maturely after ex-Villa manager Tim Sherwood moved for a load deal at the start of the season for 1 million.

The Portuguese defender is one of the 12 players bought into the club in the summer but has failed to impress the managers at the club. He made just one appearance in his time at Villa and with the manger Remi Garde wanting to make changes, finds no place in the team.

Talking to media, “This group hasn’t been together for a long time, which is probably not the best thing you can have for a football team,” said the Frenchman. “You always have to build something to be solid, and if you look at the story of this football club there has been a lot of changes, and important ones, for the last years and many in the summer as well,” he continued. “The team has to build a new story and, of course, in a team, you need some leaders.”

This obviously does not include the 22-year old who will not be happy going to Liverpool where his chances will be limited. The defender impressed many during the European U21 Championships during the summer but failed to recreate the form in the limited chances he got at Villa.

However, with the never ending injuries to key players, Jurgen Klopp will not be too un-happy to see a back up for his back line and the Portuguese will be hoping to muscle his way through the Anfield line-up.

If he fails to do so, this might be the last chance for him at a top flight club.
