Just in – Memphis Depay to be dropped tomorrow by van Gaal
So, van Gaal has finally lost his patience. Memphis Depay is on the firing line and reports saying he will be dropped for the clash against Everton this weekend.
The £25m Dutch youngster has featured in all the eight League matches this season but managed to score just one goal with not a single assist.
Surprisingly, Depay has lost possession 32 times this season, which is more than any other player in the top flight of clubs.
Earlier there were reports, Ryan Giggs, Van Gaal’s deputy gave the Dutchman a dressing-down over his reckless lifestyle, and now The Sun are claiming to quote a reliable source as saying: “He has been acting really big time around the camp which is starting to annoy a number of people.”
Former Dutch star Youri Mulder also expressed his anger recently saying: “He played one good match for United, against Club Brugge [in the Champions League]. In the Premier League he suffers, yet his attitude suggests that he is a big star. It seems that people at Manchester United are starting to get fed up with this.”
The Netherlands youngster, hailed as one of the promising prospects of European football since playing for his national team in 2014 World Cup, arrived at Old Trafford in summer. Before that, he enjoyed a magnificent season with PSV Eindhoven last year and had a major contribution in Eindhoven’s title win.
Depay also caught the headlines when he had an altercation with Robin van Persie, while on international duty earlier this week, before somehow managed to wear the wrong shirt in their las Euro 2016 qualifier match against the Czech Republic.
Sources suggesting Ashley Young will replace Depay against Everton, while Matteo Darmian could be moved to left-back and Antonio Valencia at right-back.
