After registering an impressive 1-0 win over a dodgy Middlesbrough side, Chelsea moved to the top of the Premier League. Diego Costa’s goal in the first half was enough for Antonio Conte’s men to see off a Middlesbrough side that defended brilliantly throughout the match.
The Blues now lead second-placed Liverpool by one point and one man has played a massive role in the remarkable turnaround – Diego Costa. The Spain international’s goal against Aitor Karanka’s side was his tenth of this season. He has now become the first player to get to the double-digit mark this season in goal tally. Sergio Aguero with eight goals is the second highest scorer this season.
Apart from the ten goals, the striker has also registered three assists this season. And his brilliant form has now seen him getting involved in more goals than nine Premier League clubs have managed to score all season. One of the best strikers in the world right now, the Spaniard’s seven out of ten goals have now come away from home.

With Antonio Conte looking to make amends for the club’s disastrous performance last year, he knows that Costa will have to play a big role in achieving that objective. And the former Juventus manager has done a fantastic job in helping the striker get back his old form. Always criticised for his attitude on the field, Costa has now been channelising his energy into finding the goals which has made Conte very happy.
Speaking to the media after the match, Conte said:“For me, it’s important to have this type of question because in the past, you asked me about his behaviour, about his reaction, about his patience.
“Now I think he is one of the best strikers in the world and he has to continue in this way, showing his patience, but in the right way. He is very focused on the team, to help the team with the ball, without the ball and he is scoring a lot of goals. He has to continue so,” he added.
