Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has confirmed interest in Juventus star striker Carlos Tevez.
The 31-year-old, who helped the Old Lady to a domestic double and a run to the Champions League final, is unsure over his future with the Turin club. Tevez has only one year left on his current contract, and there seem no signs of him renewing his current contract, which has led to the speculation that the former Manchester United man could seek pastures new.
Liverpool were the latest club credited with an interest in the Argentine attacker.
And now Diego Simeone has fuelled the speculation by claiming that Carlos Tevez would be an ’ideal’ player for his side.
Talking to AS, the Rojiblancos trainer said, “The truth is that I have not spoken to Tevez. But I know the club are talking to his agent”
“It’s always exciting to be able to count on players like Tevez.
“His contributions extend beyond the number of goals he is capable of scoring. His temperment would make him ideal for Atletico, given the way he and the club live football.
“I have great expectations for the campaign ahead, as we will have even more tactical variations after a complex last season.”
YOU ARE IDEAL: Simeone sees Tevez as an ‘ideal’ signing for his side
The La Liga side are also closing in on a move to sign Tevez’s compatriot and Villarreal striker Luciano Vietto.
“He [Vietto] is a goal of ours, and we are close [to an agreement],” continued the trainer. “His signing would be a major boost, as he is a player with extraordinary characteristics.
“He reminds me greatly of [former Atletico striker David] Villa, with his way of playing between the lines rare in football today. I knew him even before I took charge of him at Racing, and gave his debut.”
Tevez earlier has reiterated his intentions of moving to his native Buenos Aires with Boca Juniors next year.
