Does Champions League exit hurt Liverpool’s season?

Does Champions League exit hurt Liverpool’s season?

Liverpool exited the Champions League at the round of 16 courtesy of losing both legs to Atletico Madrid. The Spanish side created very little in attack against a far stronger Liverpool team, but somehow managed to score four goals. The Champions League now moves into the quarterfinals with the continent’s heavyweight teams clashing. Football fans are debating which teams will advance to the semifinals and can visit Iusport to get a bet bonus before wagering on the clubs they believe will make the final four.

Liverpool had reached the Champions League final in each of the last two seasons under manager Jurgen Klopp. The disappointment is heavy on Merseyside despite Liverpool preparing to lift their first league title in 30 years. With the loss in the last 16 of the Champions League to Atletico Madrid, it feels like the Reds’ season has been a failure, but it is anything but unsuccessful.

First title in 30 years

A generation of Liverpool supporters have never seen the club lift the league title. Liverpool have come close in the last 30 years yet ultimately failed to win the league championship. The Reds can lift the league title against Crystal Palace in round 31 of the Premier League. Football fans are debating which team will win the game at Anfield and can visit this website to get a bet bonus before wagering on the fixture.

Since Fenway Sports Group bought the club in 2010, they have overhauled it inside and out. The last three seasons under Klopp have been magical with Liverpool signing world-class players and reaching the Champions League final on two occasions.

Liverpool have also been in the mix for the Premier League title more times than not since FSG took over the club. Brendan Rodgers narrowly missed leading the Reds to the title and Klopp’s team came up just short in 2018-19.

Despite being knocked out of the Champions League in the last 16, the Reds are having one of the greatest seasons – not just in club history – but in English football history. Liverpool can wrap up the Premier League title earlier than any other team before them. Klopp’s team could lift the trophy as early as March 21st depending on results.

Even without reaching the Champions League final for a third straight year, Liverpool are about to win a trophy fans have craved for the last three decades. The accomplishment shouldn’t be ignored nor should the belief that this season has unravelled be considered.

Signs for the future

Liverpool’s Champions League loss to Atletico Madrid showed just how strong Liverpool can be for the future. However, it also showed areas in which the club should address. Liverpool battered Atletico Madrid but couldn’t breakdown their defence.

A playmaker in the centre of the park is the ideal player Klopp needs next at Liverpool. A 20-goal a season striker is another individual Liverpool need to deploy through the middle. Although Roberto Firmino has been excellent since arriving from Hoffenheim in 2015, a No. 9 that can score goals when needed would be invaluable to the Reds.

It is easy to say the season has come off the rails with Liverpool out of the FA Cup and Champions League. Due to the Reds being 25 points ahead of Manchester City with 29 games played, it can be forgotten just how hard the team has worked to win the title.

Had supporters been asked at the start of the season which trophy they wanted most; they would have said the league title. The club are about to win the trophy for the first time in three decades. This season has been an utter success regardless of anti-football winning in the Champions League last 16.
