Drug test failure caused suspension of Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho
France’s RMC Sport has reported that Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has been using some kind of fat burner, which is an unknown substance to the player. The centre-back has been suspended by his club Liverpool, as the fat burner contained a banned substance, though an investigation on his dope test failure is yet to be made.
When Liverpool authorities came to know about this, there was no time wasted by delaying Sakho’s suspension by the club, as it was the right choice. But suspending a player prior to an investigation may even prevent him from playing for the Merseyside club again this season, no matter what the outcome is. It takes months to do even a quick investigation.
Kolo Toure faced also used a similar kind of fat burner drug and then failed the doping test, during his time at Manchester City, back in 2011. FA took three months to complete that investigation and pass the judgment. That dope test failure caused Toure a lot, he was suspended for six months, Sakho may face the same. But according to Liverpooloffside, the Liverpool defender was not aware of the substances and chemical compounds of the fat burner supplement, which he was taking. Sakho is pretty convinced he will be able to prove his innocence and faithfulness to the FA investigators, and Liverpool will also try their best to back him and help him out of this situation.
Liverpool recently got victorious over the mighty Borussia Dortmund, who are currently giving Bayern Munich a tough competition in the Bundesliga. The Merseyside Reds are in search of their silverware in Europe. Being just three games away from the trophy, this is not at all the right time for such a horrible news. It is a big blow for both the club and the player, but Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will still walk on, with hope in their hearts, to snatch the Europa League and also the top four position.
