EB-MB derby in I-League on 23rd January and at Salt Lake Stadium
The first derby match between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan in the forthcoming I-League has been scheduled on 23rd January. And there is also good news for the fans of both these clubs that they will be able to watch this derby at the Salt Lake Stadium in spite of the fact that Salt Lake Stadium has already been taken over by India’s uinder-17 World Cup football organizing committee. The All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) I-League committee chairman, headed by Sunanda Dhar has informed, following the committee’s request to the Under-17 World Cup organizing committee to stage the first derby at the Salt Lake Stadium, the organizing committee members have decided to allow to stage the derby at the Salt Lake Stadium. But at the same time, I-League committee has been informed that the away derby match between the two Kolkata giants that has been scheduled to be held on 3rd April, 2016, cannot be staged at the Salt Lake Stadium.
So, the away derby match that has been allotted to East Bengal to host might take place in either Siliguri or Cuttack. But according to East Bengal officials the match might finally be staged at Kenchanjangha Stadium in Siliguri.
However, according to the I-League fixture, to be released by the I-League committee, Mohun Bagan, the defending champion will kick off in the tournament this season on 9th January against Aizal FC of Mizoram while East Bengal will start its campaign against Sporting Clube De Goa on the next day in Goa.
