Arsenal and Manchester United were handed tricky away fixtures against Nottingham Forest and Northampton in the EFL third round draw as Premier League champions Leicester City were drawn against five-time winners Chelsea.
It promises to be an exciting set of matches to see how the Premier League big boys can reach the fourth round of the competition, but Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho will no doubt have been hoping for home ties. Manchester United have not won the League Cup since 2010.
It was a similar situation for several of the other top Premier League sides with holders Manchester City set to travel Swansea, while Liverpool will take on Derby County.
But arguably the tie of the round will be the all-Italian managers’ clash between Leicester and Chelsea.
Liverpool booked their place in the third round with a thumping 5-0 win against Burton Albion while Chelsea beat Bristol Rovers 3-2.
Premier League giants Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal all entered in the third-round stage as did all sides who are still involved in European competitions.
