England are first to look at updated regulations as they get ready for Euro 2016 warm-ups

Australia and Turkey in Euro 2016 warm-up games are coming soon and the English players will be testing the new rules added in the book recently when they take on Australia and Turkey.

Lots of changes have been made to the Laws of the Game and the revised rules will be applied from the start of June but Roy Hodgson’s side are the first to test them during the two friendlies at the end of this month.

DailyMail reports, David Elleray will enlighten Roy Hodgson’s men by providing some brief guidelines about the rules. David is the technical director of the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

Coming to the changes:

The biggest change which has been made in the game is that there will be a triple punishment if any clear goal scoring opportunity is denied (DOGSO). Thus, his special concerns will be Joe Hart and other goalkeepers.

Any sort of foul inside the penalty box, denying a clear goal scoring chance, for an example take that foul by Thibaut Courtois against Manchester City previous month, won’t result in a direct red card from now on.

As long as the foul is committed followed by a genuine attempt to win the ball, there will not be any direct red card, just a penalty will be rewarded and the personal punishment will be degraded to a yellow card.

Although, RED cards are not yet being taken out of the ref’s pockets. There will still be a red card if the referee doesn’t observe any genuine attempt to win the ball prior to the foul. As an example a deliberate pull or a push, or a trip when the opponent player has taken the ball out of his reach.

Even if the foul is committed outside the penalty box, the DOGSO offence will still result in a direct RED card because the award for the foul is not close to the chance which was denied, or in other words, a free kick does not possess much threat for goal as much as a penalty kick.

Other rule changes coming in:

If the committed foul on a player was worthy of a card then the player will now have a small spell of medical treatment without leaving the pitch.

A big change has been made on the Offside free-kicks, now the offside free kicks will be taken from the spot where the offence takes place instead of the spot where the offside player was when the flag raised.

After having an equipment change players will no longer have to wait for a break in play to get in.

Injured players who are off the pitch behind the goal will become inactive after one phase of play.

If any substitute or staff interferes during the game, the opponent will be awarded a direct free-kick (upgraded from an indirect free-kick).

And last but not the least, the kick-off will no longer have to be done with a forward pass it can be a backward pass too.

By removing repetition and modifying the language, Elleray has cut down the size of the previous rule book and shortened it by 10,000 words

Elleray also thinks further changes may to the game in the near future, especially one with a proper examination of the handball rule and a better reward than a penalty kick for clear offences in the penalty box such as the Luis Suarez handball clearance for Uruguay in 2010 World Cup against Ghana.

This will go in step with the advances of video technology. Next week Elleray will represent FA at a workshop in Amsterdam, which involves 15 other nations also interested in the extending use of the video technology. According to Ellery, FA may be ready to get the trials on by the beginning of 2017.
