Glenn McConnell, from Blackpool, had launched the e-petition to ban Tom Cleverley from the World Cup on 27 Feb 2014, which was initially rejected because of governement guidelines on the direct.gov.site, which cannot be used for commercial issues.

But the undeterred England supporter, 24, who much like most football fans around the world, has been let down by Tom Cleverley‘s below-par performances this season, relaunched the petition to ban Cleverley from the World Cup squad on the change.org website, and has been widely welcomed with close to 7000 signatures so far.

On the petition, McConnell, encourages the English supporters to rally behind his cause : “Tom Cleverley, owner of 13 England caps, has been regularly selected by Roy Hodgson in his squads without possessing any genuine qualities whatsoever.

“We believe in the reputation of this proud footballing nation and that he should be prevented from attending this summer’s international showcase.

“Whilst England are considered to disappoint at major tournaments, further embarrassment could be avoided by not having his inept performances undermine the rest team’s efforts.”

Cleverley has scored just 1 goal in 32 appearances this season for the Red Devils, and was the subject of much criticism on Twitter a few weeks back.

The England International, who has earned 13 caps for the national side so far, has been included in the 30-man squad for an international friendly against Denmark next week.

Should Cleverley make the trip to Brazil?
