Barcelona’s stunning Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain is a “handicap” for this weekend’s clash with Deportivo La Coruna, claims Luis Enrique.
Barcelona pulled off the unthinkable on Wednesday night, overturning a four-goal deficit against Paris Saint-Germain to make the Champions League quarter-finals.
The La Liga champions were in imperious form as they ran out 6-1 winners on the night – 6-5 on aggregate.
But Barca boss Luis Enrique has warned such a huge victory could be a “handicap” for his side against Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday.
“It is definitely a handicap, a handicap we need to resolve,” Enrique said.
“But I am faithful, about the wisdom and the experience of my players knowing that we still have the rest of the league to deal with.
“And we still have to play a lot of games and we have to keep showing the level of football we can play.”
Barca currently sit top of the La Liga table, one point clear of Real Madrid who have a game in hand.
The Catalan side are also still in the running for the Champions League and have made the final of the Copa del Rey.
However, no team is riding higher than Barca at the moment after that epic comeback against PSG last week in the Champions League. With 17 goals over their last three matches, Barca keeps it up.
A few weeks ago, the Blaugrana were staring down the barrel at a season of disappointment. La Liga seemed to be drifting out of reach, the UEFA Champions League was nothing but a pipedream and of course the Copa del Rey final was on the horizon, but in comparison it was a consolation prize. Now? Well, it’s been Groundhog Day for Luis Enrique as the parallels to 2015 continue to surface.
