Midweek fixtures always bring excitement and unexpected results. As the top-teams begin to tire from all the European and domestic football, it’s a good opportunity for the teams struggling to nibble away some points during these fixtures.

This mid-week results saw the top-2 drop points, the title race get more intense, 2 games got postponed and drama in the aftermath of the results.

The matches kicked off on Tuesday night as Cardiff City took on Aston Villa; a game that ended in a goal less draw. Many travelling Villa fans would be disappointed watching their team lack the hunger to take it to the opposition. Southampton came away from the KC stadium with all 3 points as a Jose Fonte goal was enough to get the Saints over the line against Hull.

The Hammers still without striker Andy Carroll managed to score 2 goals in the last 10 minutes to earn a deserved 3 points over Norwich City at the Boelyn Stadium. The fixture of the day was a bit of a let-down as after Branislav Ivanović pit Chelsea ahead in the 45 minute it was all defending. Until 3 minutes from time when Victor Anichebe played the villain and snatched a late equalizer from the current group leaders.

Wednesday saw the return of Robin Van Persie to the Emirates, unfortunately though for him, the game between Arsenal and Manchester United ended in a stalemate. Speaking of stalemates, Stoke city drew with Swansea city as they both battle it out to avoid relegation. The last game of Wednesday saw it go down right to the last 2 minutes. After coming back from  a goal down twice, Liverpool showed great character to toil and come away with the 3 points.

Coming weekend is FA Cup weekend while the top -4 play each other in the next round. Few premier league teams will field their first-choice players as seen since the past few years young players get a taste of first-team action.
